News from Lifeskills

Last Friday 15-08-14 it was a privilege for Lifeskills Plus to receive a visit from the Hon. Kevin Andrews MP Minister for Social Services.

Together with Mark Coulton - Federal MP for Parkes - , Des Kennedy Mayor of our Mid-West regional council and Brad Cam the council’s General Manager, he visited our Perry Street Centre, Southside Skills Centre and the building site of our new Community Centre. They were accompanied by the president – Bruce Walker – and vice-president – Sue Tompkins – of Lifeskills Plus’ Board of Directors.

Our minister took the time to meet and greet our staff and our clients. He acknowledged the need for our Perry Street services to re-locate to 10/13 Oporto Road. Lifeskills’ Sonya Pym, standing in for our CEO, showed the politicians our two centres and the building site of our new Community Centre. At the end of the hour long visit Kevin Andrews said: ”Now I can see why I have been lobbied for this”. Our federal representative Mark Coulton is indeed a “Friend Of Lifeskills” and has, together with our own mayor, Des Kennedy, taken Lifeskills’ cause to heart. They continue to lobby our government for funding to complete stage 2 of our Community Centre development. There is ample consensus that our Mid-West region needs more short term respite beds and Lifeskills’ Community Centre will go some way to reduce the pressure.
